Weed Harvesting to Begin Mid-June at Mill Pond (2)

Township collaborated with the Raisin River Conservation Authority and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on a program to reduce this invasive perennial in a limited area of Mill Pond. The removal of the weeds from Mill Pond is scheduled to start after June 15th, the earliest date allowed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The removal improves the fish habitat by promoting an increase of dissolved oxygen for aquatic life. The harvester cuts weeds, collects them on its deck and they are deposited on the shore where they are relocated for composting.

La municipalité collabore avec l’agence de conservation Raisin River et le département des pêches et océans sur un programme pour réduire le nombre de mauvaises herbes dans l’étang. L'habitat est amélioré pour les poissons en enlevant les mauvaises herbes dès le 15 juin, le plus tôt permis par le département des pêches et océans. La réduction des mauvaises herbes résulte dans une augmentation de la teneur en oxygène dissous. La faucaudeuse retire les mauvaises herbes, les déposes sur terre ou elles sont relocalisées pour fin de compostage.
