Township of North Glengarry Glengarry Sports Palace Receives Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program Grant
Alexandria, March 4, 2022 – The Township of North Glengarry is pleased to announce that the Glengarry Sports Palace is the recipient of up to $1,583,103 from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program grant. These funds will help fund the $2,158,875 capital costs of replacing the Glengarry Sports Palace’s 46-year-old refrigerated floor with a new, more energy-efficient and safer system.
The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program is a cost-shared infrastructure funding program between the federal government, provinces and territories, and municipalities and other recipients. This program provides federal, provincial and other partner funding, under four priority areas, including Community, Culture and Recreation. The Community, Culture and Recreation stream supports community infrastructure priorities across the province, improving access to and / or quality of community, cultural, and recreation priority infrastructure projects.
“The Township of North Glengarry submitted an application to ICIP in the fall of 2019 and we are delighted to be a recipient of the grant,” said Mayor Jamie MacDonald. “This represents a significant investment into the Glengarry Sports Palace and more importantly, it guarantees our community has access to aa reliable facility for decades to come.”
This major renovation starts in early March and should be completed for the start of the 2022/2023 ice season. Work will include:
- Remove arena concrete slab, refrigeration lines, boards, glass, etc.
- Replace concrete slab and refrigeration lines
- Install new boards and glass
- Reconfigure players benches and timekeepers box to create better access
- Replace metal halide lighting with LED fixtures on the ice surface
- Install an accessible lift and create a viewing area in the bleachers
- Create a dedicated as gender-inclusive bathroom/changeroom
- Replace heat sensors, fire alarms, pull stations, emergency lighting to increase safety
- Many other changes to improve the spectator and patron experience
