Fire Department recognizes members
On February 22, the north Glengarry Fire Department hosted their annual Recognition Celebration. This event honours and recognizes North Glengarry volunteer firefighters for their training accomplishments, and for their service to their community. Mayor Jamie MacDonald and members of Council were in attendance, as well as retired members, and friends and family of North Glengarry firefighters.
Nine members received their yellow helmets, symbolizing their graduation from recruit to firefighter after their successful completion of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Firefighter I. 22 firefighters were recognized for their successful completion of the NFPA Firefighter II course. These courses are part of mandatory certification implemented by the province which involves in-class as well as practical skills assessment.
Retired Senior Captain Daniel Bray, Senior Captain Laurier Rochon and Captain Serge Bellefeuille received their Long Service Medals in recognition for their 25 years of service, while firefighter Jacques Quenneville of Alexandria also received his Exemplary Service Medal for 20 years of service to the North Glengarry Fire Department. Members celebrating five and ten year milestones were recognized, as well as other notable certifications including three members receiving their NFPA Fire Inspector Certification, and three receiving their NFPA Fire and Life Safety Educator Certification.
Retiring members Senior Captain Daniel Bray, and firefighters Chad MacDonald and Amanda McDonell were also recognized for their service.
“We are so proud of all of our firefighters for all of their hard work and dedication.” Says Fire Chief, Matthew Roy. “The number of awards being given tonight show our firefighters’ commitment to training and certification. This is a testament to their work ethic and dedication to their service to our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to thank our firefighters for their service and sacrifice, as well as recognize their families and friends who support our members.”
The North Glengarry Fire Department operates out of three stations in Alexandria, Apple Hill and Maxville with 60 volunteer firefighters.
