Alexandria lagoon expansion receives provincial funding
The Township of North Glengarry is proud to announce that the Ontario Government has allocated $28,543,000 towards the total eligible costs of the expansion of the Alexandria lagoon.
Based on the 2021 Environmental Compliance Assessment, substantial development of the lagoon is required in order to support residential, commercial or industrial development. With funding from the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), which helps municipalities build, repair, rehabilitate and expand critical drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, there will be capacity for over 3,300 new housing units.
Council members have advocated for this project for the last several years, including most recently at the ROMA conference, distributing this promotional video to draw investment to North Glengarry.
“This is huge news for North Glengarry”, says Mayor Jamie MacDonald. “We have been advocating for this project for years, putting not only our Township on the map, but surrounding communities in SDG. This expansion means residential growth, which will benefit our schools, hospital and commercial development. Thank-you to the Provincial government for investing in our project.
The Lagoon Expansion Project is one of 23 water infrastructure projects across the province designed to connect new homes to essential water services, enabling growth and housing opportunities.
