Festival of Lights
North Glengarry is garnering more and more attention for its annual Festival of Lights. Each holiday season, the Island Park on the shores of the Mill Pond is transformed with over 200,000 lights and decorations lining the walking paths in the park. Kids and residents of all ages enjoy the holiday music and lights throughout the holiday season leading up to the New Year. Special events are planned throughout including wagon rides through the streets of Alexandria (Fridays thru Sundays) and contests for the best home decorations.
Just over 5 years ago, a local resident who had recently relocated to the area, Mr. Tom Gerlich, suggested the concept and the event has been growing annually ever since. In 2010, the event won a Communities in Bloom award and last year's light show got a boost from a provincial cultural grant. The event is sponsored by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, numerous local merchants, the Township of North Glengarry and countless hours of volunteer dedication.
This year's festival runs from November 24th 2012 to January 5, 2013.
