Festival of Lights
North Glengarry is renown for its annual Festival of Lights. Each holiday season, the Island Park on the shores of the Mill Pond is transformed into a magical wonderland with more 200,000 lights and decorations lining the walking paths that meander through the park. Kids and residents of all ages enjoy the holiday music and illuminations throughout the holiday season. Special activities, such as wagon rides, form an integral part of the festivities and a contest is held for the best residential decorations.
The event was launched in 2006 and has been growing annually ever since. In 2010, the event won a Communities in Bloom award and has received funding from a provincial cultural grant. The event is sponsored by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, numerous local businesses and the Township of North Glengarry and is made possible through countless hours of volunteer dedication.
